Qatar breaks ground on North Field expansion

State-owned Qatargas has started construction on four new liquefaction trains that will raise Qatar's LNG production capacity from 77 to 110mn metric tons/year, the company said on Twitter on October 17.

Qatar took a final investment decision on the North Field East (NFE) expansion project in February. The first of the four liquefaction trains is due to start up in late 2025.

Spain's Tecnicas Reunidas won an engineering, procurement and construction contract for NFE's onshore facilities in late August.
