Pure Hydrogen Stimulates Queensland Well

Australian explorer Pure Hydrogen Corporation, formerly Strata-X Energy, has completed the stimulation of Venus 1 coalbed methane (CBM) pilot well in Queensland, it said on March 12.  

“The stimulation of Venus 1 has been successfully completed. There was a material improvement in water influx post-stimulation based on short-term water influx tests before and after stimulation,” it said.

The next stage is to set up the well for an initial three-month duration flow test. The work to set up the well for flow testing is planned to start next week with the flow test scheduled to start by the end of the month, it said. 

The flow test is designed to carry out a controlled drawdown of the well to increase water influx rates, induce gas breakout followed by increasing gas flow rates. “The results of this test will be used to design an extended pilot, future production wells, and water handling requirements,” the company said. 

The Venus-1 well is located on Project Venus in Queensland’s Surat basin. The project is an equal joint venture between Pure Hydrogen and Real Energy. 

Meanwhile, the merger between Pure Hydrogen and Real is expected to be completed on March 17, the company said. The merged entity will be called Pure Hydrogen.  The normal trading of the shares of the merged entity will start in Sydney on March 18. 

Pure Hydrogen has five hydrogen projects under development and three gas projects, the Windorah gas project in the Cooper basin, Project Venus in the Surat basin, and the Serowe CBM project in Botswana.
