Private firm strikes gas in Uzbekistan

US-registered Epsilon Development has discovered Karakara gas field in Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya region, achieving a test-flow rate of 0.5mn m3/day from a single well,  local media reported on August 29.

The reports did not specify the field’s reserves or its potential production capacity.

Epsilon is focused exclusively on Uzbekistan, where it is exploring several blocks . Karakara is the third field to have been identified by the company this month, following the discovery of the Mirbaraka and Garbiy Ernazar fields on August 18 and 19 in the Kultak-Kamashi block.  At this site,  Epsilon also started flowing 0.25mn m3/d from the Talimarjan and 0.1mn m3/d of gas from the Shimoliy Girsan gas fields in March and July of this year respectively.

The company operates 19 drilling rigs for exploration and production projects in the Kultak-Kamashi, Surkhan, Mubarek and Fergana blocks. The blocks, estimated to hold 561bn m3 of reserves in total, require some $4.8-5.2bn investment for exploration, development and production, Epsilon has said.
