Portugal to Come Up with LNG Strategy for Road Transportation by Year-end

The European Union will support Portugal in its plans to promote LNG in road transportation, selecting the project for EU funding under the the TEN-T Annual Call 2013.

‘The EU's TEN-T Programme will back with over €150,000 the national policy development for the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Portuguese road transport. LNG, a greener and cheaper alternative to conventional fuel, could help reduce the emissions of freight trucks on the main European highways’ reads a note released on Wednesday.

The support is part of European intention to promote diversification fuel in the transport sector.

Portugal is expected to set out a national policy framework to stimulate a transition to LNG in the freight transport sector.

‘Its implementation will be monitored by INEA, the European Commission's Innovation and Networks Executive Agency. The project is to be completed by 31 December 2015’ the European Commission wrote on INEA’s website.
