Polish Pair Drill for Gas

Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) and oil refiner Orlen's upstream division have begun drilling another well under their joint Plotki project, they said April 27. PGNiG is operator with 51%.

Work on the Chwalecin-1K borehole will take about 80 days. The borehole is in Zalesie, in the central-western Wielkopolska region of Poland, and will be drilled to a depth of 3,040 metres. It is expected to discover gas in the Rotliegend formations. The Plotki project covers four licence areas, producing about 2,100 barrels of oil equivalent/day.

In addition to the drilling work, both companies are preparing to develop the Miloslaw field where production is planned to begin between the 1Q and 2Q 2019.

PGNiG CEO Piotr Wozniak said that the companies were "committed to using state-of-the-art, innovative well stimulation techniques, including hydraulic fracturing, in order to increase recovery rates. For the first time in the region of Wielkopolska, we successfully used horizontal technique in sandstone formations, which produced very good results. By working with this proven partner, we can increase Poland’s natural gas production potential and thus enhance its energy security.”

The two are also working on reserves in Sierakow, in Wielkopolska. It covers two licence areas and the two are doing preparatory work on oil and gas field development. Both companies are also running a joint project Bieszczady, comprising seven licence areas in the region of Podkarpacie in southeast Poland, and analysing the results of their seismic surveys.
