Poland: BNK to Begin Shale Gas Drilling in February

California-based BNK Petroleum has said that it has commenced building of its first well on the Trzebielino concession in Poland, with drilling expected to begin before the end of February 2012.

The well will target shale within the Trzebielino concession, which BNK expects to be even richer and thicker organic shales than BNK's Saponis Lebork S-1 well encountered.

Following drilling of this concession, the rig will move to the first Bytow concession location. The company says that this concession too is expected to hold rich and thick organic shales, due to the environment of the shale.

"The company's technical evaluation indicates that the Ordovician on the Trzebielino and Bytow concessions was deposited in a deeper basin environment than the previously drilled wells," a statement from BNK said. "The deeper environment and transgressive nature of the deposit is expected to lead to richer and thicker organic shales.  The company is looking to confirm this with these two wells."

BNK has a 100 per cent interest in both concessions, through its wholly owned indirect company, Indiana Investments Sp z o.o.
