PGNiG speeds up Shale Gas exploration

Poland’s gas giant PGNiG is to launch shale gas exploration in Q4 2010, ‘Dziennik Gazeta Prawna’ reports. Earlier, the project was scheduled to start in 2011.

According to unofficial sources quoted by ‘Dziennik Gazeta Prawna’, the Polish government has urged the company to speed up the work. A number of leading US companies interested in Polish shale gas deposits are to start exploration in May.

PGNiG is to drill the first well near the mid-western city of Poznań. The costs of the exploration work are estimated at PLN 5 billion per year, as shale gas can be found approximately 7,000 meters underground.
