Petronas reports fire at LNG complex in Bintulu

Malaysian state-owned Petronas on September 29 said a fire broke out at the LNG complex in Bintulu. The operations remain unaffected, however.

The incident occurred on September 28 at the sea cooling water outfall channel located outside the complex's process area. “The plant’s emergency response team was immediately mobilised to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire by 4.41 pm,” the company said.

Five contractor personnel sustained injuries in the incident and were sent to the hospital for treatment. They have all been discharged, Petronas said. The company has informed all relevant authorities and is carrying out an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. 

The LNG complex at Bintulu is spread over 276 hectares of land and has a production capacity of approximately 30mn metric tons/year.
