Petronas makes third oil, gas discovery in Suriname's Block 52
Malaysia's Petronas has made a third oil and gas discovery in Block 52, offshore Suriname, it announced on May 15.
The Fusaea-1 well, located 170km offshore, spudded in February 2024, reached a total depth of 5,227 m and encountered multiple oil and gas-bearing Campanian sandstone reservoir packages. Petronas is currently conducting further evaluation to assess the full extent of this discovery and its integration possibilities with the recent Roystonea-1 and Sloanea-1 discoveries.
"These discoveries have significantly expanded the prospectivity and integrated oil and gas development potential within Block 52," said Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman, Petronas vice president of exploration.
Block 52, covering an area of 4,749 km2, is positioned north of Paramaribo, Suriname's capital city, within the prolific Suriname-Guyana basin. Petronas operates Block 52 with a 50% participating interest, in partnership with ExxonMobil.
In addition to its operations in Block 52, the Malaysian state-owned company holds 100% participating interest in Block 48 and Block 63.
