Petronas Hires MHB For Offshore Gas Project

Malaysian state-owned Petronas has hired Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MHB) for engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning work at the Kasawari sour gas project off the shore of Malaysia’s Sarawak region.

MHB’s contract covers the development of 47,000 metric tons (mt) of central processing platform (CPP), 8,600 mt of wellhead platform (WHP) and a flare structure. It will also build two bridges connecting the CPP to the WHP and the flare structure, and a 85-km pipeline between the CPP and the existing E11R-A platform.

“This award is a representation of continued trust in our capability in providing offshore solutions and producing the desired results,” MHB CEO Wan Mashitah Wan Abdullah Sani said in a statement announcing the contract on July 23. “Our aim is to deliver all projects efficiently, without compromising on safety and quality.”

MHEE did not disclose the contract's value.

Petronas is yet to take a final investment decision at Kasawari, with delays linked to wrangling between the company and local authorities over project terms. Gas from the field is earmarked as feedstock for Petronas’ 30mn mt/yr Bintulu LNG hub.
