Petronas Delivers First LNG to Hokkaido

Malaysian state Petronas through its subsidiary, Malaysia LNG (MLNG), delivered its first LNG cargo to Japan's Hokkaido Electric Power August 1, marking the beginning of a 10-yr supply contract signed in March 2017.

Hokkaido Electric will use the cargo to commission its LNG tank at Ishikari terminal before vaporising the LNG and burning it in Unit 1 of its Ishikari Bay New Port Power Station. This will start comprehensive trials this October, Hokkaido Electric said in a separate statement August 2.

The cargo was delivered from Petronas' 30mn metric tons/yr LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak to Ishikari by Puteri Delima Satu, the LNG vessel chartered by MLNG and operated by Petronas’ subsidiary MISC.

Hokkaido is the second largest island in Japan next to Honshu Island and Hokkaido Electric has been providing stable supply of electricity to the entire region and it is the largest power utility in Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan.
