Petrofac Wins Turkish Storage Contract

Petrofac, in a joint venture with Turkish Standards Institution (TSE), has secured a three-year, multi-million dollar project management consultancy services contract for the third phase of Turkey's north Marmara gas storage expansion project, it said July 19.

The existing facility, about 60 km west of Istanbul, has been in operation since 2007 and the state-owned transmission system operator Botas intends to expand its working gas capacity to 4.6bn m³, or about 8% of the country's annual demand. The joint venture is responsible for managing and supervising areas which will cover the main phases and scopes of work. These include detailed design, engineering, procurement, construction, drilling and decommissioning, along with commissioning and start-up activities, UK-listed contractor Petrofac said.  This is its second award in Turkey in just under a year.

TSE said the project involves the expansion of a key Turkish facility, with both onshore and offshore components. The TSE Petrofac partnership brings together significant international experience as well as local delivery capability.
