PetroChina's Changqing Field to Produce Record Gas

PetroChina-operated Changqing oil and gas field in northern China is expected to produce a record 38bn m3 of natural gas this year, CNPC, PetroChina’s parent company said October 8 without giving last year's production figures.

The field accounts for about a quarter of China’s total gas production. PetroChina has drilled more than 100 new wells in Jingbian, Yulin and Sulige which has taken the well count to close to 11,000 by end-September, CNPC said, adding that in anticipation of strong gas demand this winter, PetroChina had begun commissioning new wells earlier in the year.

China’s gas consumption has been rising since early-2017 owing to the government’s coal-to-gas switching policy. According to latest government data, consumption during the first eight months of the year was up 18.2% to 180.4bn m³.
