PetroChina Says Will Further Boost Gas Output from Tarim Field

PetroChina plans to increase natural gas production from Tarim field in China's Xinjiang region from current 23.55 billion cubic meters (bcm) to 30 bcm in the next five years, according to Xinhua Finance Agency.

Xie Wenyan, executive in charge of the oil and gas field, said on Thursday that it will also produce 6 million tons of crude oil and explore an average of 100 million tons of oil and gas equivalent every year from 2016 to 2020.

Earlier this month, PetroChina Tarim Oilfield Company said cumulative natural gas output from Tarim field crossed 200 bcm. The field went into operation in 2004 when China’s East-West pipeline project came online. In the past five years, Tarim field contributed one sixth of the national total gas output annually, according to the company.

As per the official data, the field has a proven natural gas reserve of 1.85 trillion cubic meters, 13 percent of its estimated total reserve, Xinhua Finance reported.
