PetroChina Imports First LNG Via Tank Containers

Chinese state-run PetroChina October 23 imported its first LNG via tank containers, CNPC, its parent company said November 8.

PetroChina imported five LNG tank containers which were unloaded at Shanghai port. CNPC said importing LNG via tank containers can optimise China's natural gas storage and transportation channels.

Compared with the traditional transportation mode, the tank container offers flexible transportation with LNG supplied directly to the end-user. The gas can be supplied to areas not covered by natural gas pipeline network. This is normally a more costly delivery route but the very low spot price of LNG might offset that.
