Pertamina takes over Chevron block on Sumatra

State-run Pertamina has assumed operatorship of the Rokan block on Sumatra from Chevron, it said on August 9. It has planned an extensive drilling campaign for as many as 161 wells between August and December. Of those 84 are new and 77 were operated by the US major. Furthermore, in 2022 it plans to drill an additional 500 wells.

Pertamina's president Nicke Widyawati said the company was looking to invest more than $2bn by 2025 in the block. "Rokan block area also has unconventional oil and gas potential that can support the increase in national oil and gas production," said Widyawati.
