PDO to Test Khulud Tight Gas Wells in North Oman

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) will most likely start production tests at Khulud tight gas fields in North Oman later this year.

Nine appraisal wells have been drilled so far, alongside extensive seismic acquisition and fracking operations designed to help the company gain a better understanding of what is potentially the world’s deepest tight gas reservoir, Oman Daily Observer reported.

Along with PDO, BP and Oman Oil Company Exploration and Production (OOCEP) are also exploring for tight gas in Oman. BP is developing tight gas potential of the Khazzan field in its Block 61 and Oman Oil Company Exploration and Production (OOCEP) is looking to bring its Block 60 tight gas field into development later this year or early next year.

“In (the third quarter) of this year — meaning in the next few months — we will be tying in several wells that we have drilled. We are into Well No 10 now, which includes horizontal wells that we frac. So we’re looking forward to production tests later this year,” Raoul Restucci, PDO’s Managing Director told Oman Daily Observer.
