Pakistan's OGDL strikes gas

Pakistan's state-owned OGDL reported on June 22 a gas discovery at the Kaleri Shum-01 well, at the Kalchas exploration licence in the country's Punjab province.

The well, sunk to a depth of 1,907 m, flowed at a rate of 1.24mn ft3/day.

Pakistan is in the grip of an acute energy crisis, following soaring electricity consumption in recent months due to a summer heat wave, as well as low output at hydroelectric dams and difficulties obtaining LNG because of global supply constraints.
