Pakistan to Import 500 mmcfd of LNG till November

With energy crisis showing no signs of abating, Pakistan has decided to finally import 500mmcfd of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) till November on short-term basis.

The Nation has reported citing sources in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources that there is no other way out to control the ever-growing gas crisis other than the import of LNG and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Air Mix project in the country.

With the import of LNG and with LPG Air Mix project, 50ccfd of LNG and 25ccfd LPG Air Mix would be injected in the system resultantly intensity of gas crisis would be controlled, the newspaper reported.

The report also said that with a cost of $30 million, LPG terminal of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) would be made useable for LNG.

Further, the government has now decided to seek the approval of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet to import LNG on long-term basis in a bid to control the worsening gas shortage.
