Pakistan to Get First LNG Terminal in Two Months

Pakistan’s first liquefied natural gas terminal will likely be operational in another two months, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Managing Director Arif Hameed said on Monday.

Media reports in Pakistan said that SNGPL is also in the process of exploring for tight in the province of Punjab.

Hameed also said the Inter-State Gas Systems, tasked with developing gas import projects, was working on implementing the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project, for which tenders had already been floated.

Pakistan has been facing a severe gas shortage and the country is working hard to augment supplies. According to estimates, gas shortage is expected to reach 2.5 billion cubic feet per day in 2014-15, 3 bcfd in 2015-16 and 3.5 bcfd in 2016-17.
