Pakistan to Ask Iran for New Time frame for Completion of Gas Pipeline

Pakistan is likely to request Iran to set a new time frame for completion of Iran-Pakistan (IP) natural gas pipeline project, Pakistan’s federal minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Friday.

The minister said that some hurdles still exist due to sanctions imposed by US, reports Business Recorder.

The two parties are soon going to hold talks on IP pipeline would decide a new timeframe for the construction of the much-needed energy resource to Pakistan, the minster was quoted as saying.

Last month, Iran announced that it will unable to provide $500 million supplier’s credit to Pakistan for the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline citing financial constraints. Pakistani media also reported last month that two countries may convert their agreement on the gas pipeline project into a ‘bilateral treaty’ to avoid being hit by US sanctions.

Iran has already built 907 kilometers of its 1,227-kilometer share of the pipeline.
