Pakistan LNG Terminal Passes Milestone

Engro Elengy Terminal (EETPL), the owner of Pakistan's first LNG import facility, has achieved the milestone of completing the fastest 250 ship-to-ship transfers of LNG at any terminal in the world, Engro Corporation said September 16.

The floating terminal, Exquisite, has been in operation at Port Qasim near Karachi since March 2015 and has the capacity to transmit 650mn ft3/day of regasified LNG into the system. The terminal is currently 98% utilised and covers 13% of Pakistan’s gas requirements, the company said.

The facility includes an LNG jetty and a 7.5-km  gas pipeline connected to the grid of EETPL’s sole customer, the Sui Southern Gas Company, a Pakistani government-owned entity. EETPL holds a 15-year floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) time charter.

“Since LNG was introduced in the country, Pakistan has imported over 19 million metric tons of LNG and saved about $5bn because LNG replaced the import of more expensive furnace oil,” Engro said.

Pakistan also has a second floating import terminal, BW Integrity, which was commissioned in late 2017.
