Pakistan Hails Gas Discovery

Pakistan’s state-owned Oil & Gas Development (OGDCL) has struck oil and gas at a well in the country’s southern Sindh province, it said on July 24.

The Pandhi-01 well was drilled to a depth of 3,600 metres and test-flowed 9.12mn ft³/day of gas and 520 b/day of oil from the Lower Goru formation, OGDCL reported in a statement. The discovery was made as part of an “aggressive exploration strategy,” the firm said.

Pakistan is looking for more gas to develop so it can overcome problems with supply security. OGDCL produced 1.01bn ft³/day of gas in the nine months ending March 31, equivalent to around 30% of the country's total.
