Pakistan Finds Oil, Gas in Northern Region

Pakistan’s state-owned Oil and Gas Development Co. (OGDCL) has struck oil and gas at in the Kohat district of the country’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The Chanda Well 05 was sunk to a depth of 5,440 metres and test-flowed at a daily rate of 76 barrels of oil and 512,000 ft3 of gas, OGDCL reported on September 17. OGDCL in its statement that the find marked the first oil and gas discovery in the Chanda field’s Wargal formation.

OGDCL operates the Chanda licence with a 72% stake, and is partnered with state-controlled Government Holdings and privately-owned Zaver Petroleum. The national producer attributed the drilling success to its “aggressive exploration strategy.”
