Oz Senex's Atlas Project Takes Another Step Forward

Australia’s Senex Energy March 27 said it has received environmental okay from Queensland government for its Atlas gas project in Queensland.

“Together with satisfaction of federal environmental requirements, these approvals allow Senex to move to full development of Project Atlas. This significant milestone recognises Senex’s capabilities for safe and responsible development of natural gas projects and our commitment to minimising impact on the environment,” it said. The project received federal environmental approval in January this year.

The primary objective of the Project Atlas natural gas development programme is to reach plateau production of 32 terajoules/d (0.85mn m3/d), with an additional 8 terajoules/d (0.21mn m3/d) of installed redundant capacity. Atlas will include around 60 development wells being drilled in its initial campaigns starting late 3Q 2019, according to Senex. The final investment decision regarding Project Atlas was taken last October.

“When Senex was awarded the Project Atlas block by the Queensland government we committed to deliver first gas to domestic customers within two years. We will achieve this and more with development drilling to commence shortly and commissioning of our gas facilities by the end of 2019, followed by first gas sales to domestic customers,” CEO Ian Davies said.

“The Queensland government’s policy to introduce more natural gas into the domestic market is far sighted, innovative and beneficial for both Australian customers and producers.

“Senex is a safe pair of hands to deliver on the Queensland Government’s vision of a diverse and efficient gas market, and we continue to deliver on our strategy to become a material east coast gas supplier,” he said.
