Oz FLNG Developer Signs Study Deal with Japan's MOL

Australian floating LNG (FLNG) developer Transborders Energy has reached a joint study agreement with Japanese shipowner Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL).

Under the document, the pair will conduct pre-feed work on Transborders’ 1.3mn mt/yr FLNG concept with its other strategic partners, the UK’s TechnipFMC and Norway’s Add Energy. They will also pre-negotiate key commercial terms for the concept with Add and TechnipFMC as well as Japan’s Kyushu Electric Power. Third, they will pursue opportunities for deploying the concept at stranded gas resources.

Transborders’ chairman Jack Sato commented that MOL's involvement in the project would underpin its business model. The company also signed a preliminary deal with Japan’s Osaka Gas last month on sharing information to evaluate commercial opportunities for its concept.
