Over 590mcm of Gas Consumed Daily in Iran

Residential, commercial, and small industrial units, as well as power plants in Iran consumed more than 590 million cubic meters of gas on November 29.

Majid Boujarzadeh, spokesman of the National Iranian Gas Company, said the figure was 550mcm on the same day last year, Shana news agency reported on November 30.

Residential, commercial, and small industrial units consumed 361 million cubic meters of gas on November 29, compared with 385 mcm last year, he added.

Meanwhile, 132 mcm of gas was supplied to power plants, compared with 93 mcm last year, he noted.

Moreover, 97 mcm of gas was delivered to large industrial units on the same day, he said, adding that gas exports and imports have been carried out based on related contracts.

Iran currently exports gas to Turkey, swaps with Azerbaijan, and barters with Armenian electricity. It will start gas exports to Iraq in the near future.

Iran now produces about 550  mcm of sweet gas per day and aims to nearly double gas production to reach one billion cubic meters (bcm) per day in less than two and a half years.
