Osaka Gas to Build LNG Facilities at Nobeoka City

Osaka Gas Engineering, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas, will build LNG receiving facilities at Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture, Osaka Gas said December 21.

Japan's chemical group, Asahi Kasei, has decided to replace its third coal-fired power generation plant (built in 1971 with 34 MW capacity) in the Nobeoka industrial district in Miyazaki Prefecture with a gas-fired one to be operational in 2022. The LNG receiving facilities will help facilitate the supply of gas to the power plant, Osaka Gas said.

Miyazaki Gas (with a 51% stake) together with Osaka Gas (34%), Kyushu Electric Power (7%), Nihon Gas (7%) and Asahi Kasei (1%), plans to establish the Himuka LNG company to set up LNG receiving facilities and pipeline infrastructure.
