Shell's Ormen Lange Production Cut by Power Issues

Production at Shell's Ormen Lange field was cut yesterday after a power trip in the afternoon and is set to remain offline for today.

A problem with the Nyhamna gas processing plant's power supply led to production being stopped at 15:56 CET (13:56 GMT), Argus Media reported, with the facility expected to stay offline for 8-10 hours. A spokesperson for Shell said that production could be expected to resume 30 hours after the initial outage.

Gassco, the national gas pipeline operator for Norway, Reuters reported last night, that the outage had caused production from the field to drop by 35 million cubic metres per day. Operator Shell  has said that it is working as quickly as possible to return the field to full production.

Shell is the operator of the Norwegian Ormen Lange field with a 17.04 per cent. Norwegian companies Petero and Statoil hold a 36.48 per cent and a 28.92 per cent stake in the field respectively, DONG Energy holds a 10.34 per cent stake in the field while ExxonMobil holds the remaining 7.23 per cent stake.
