Orbost gas plant processes higher volumes in Dec

The average processing rate at the Orbost gas processing plant, owned and operated by APA Group, was 44.3 terajoules/day in December, 5% higher than the prior month, Cooper Energy said on January 13.

“The higher average processing rate in December reflects improvements due to continued optimisation of process parameters of the gas plant,” Cooper added.

The Orbost plant processes gas from Cooper’s Sole gas field offshore Victoria for supply to customers in south-east Australia. The plant's performance has been impaired by unexplained foaming in the absorber section of the sulphur recovery unit and it has not been able to reach nameplate capacity.

Cooper last month said it is exploring the option of buying the Orbost gas processing plant from energy infrastructure company APA.

Meanwhile, the Athena gas plant has achieved a critical milestone, with the first gas from the Casino, Henry and Netherby (CHN) fields introduced to the plant on December 10, Cooper said.
