OPEC secretary general Mohammad Barkindo dies
The secretary general of OPEC, Mohammad Barkindo, has died at the age of 63, the oil producers group said in a statement issued on July 6.
“It is with immense sorrow and sadness that the OPEC secretariat learnt of the passing of the OPEC secretary general, His Excellency, Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, in his home country of Nigeria,” OPEC said. “He was the much-loved leader of the OPEC Secretariat and his passing is a profound loss to the entire OPEC Family, the oil industry and the international community.”
The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) NGC’s HSSE strategy is reflective and supportive of the organisational vision to become a leader in the global energy business.
As OPEC secretary general, a position he assumed on August 1, 2016, Barkindo was a visionary leader and an eloquent communicator who played key role in forming the historic Declaration of Cooperation at the end of 2016, OPEC said.
Barkindo was due to step down at the end of this month after six years in the top job at OPEC.
