Omega hires rig for Queensland drilling campaign

ASX-listed Omega Oil and Gas has contracted SLB Land Rig 185 to execute its two-well Permian Deep Gas (PDG) exploration campaign within ATP 2037 and 2038, located in southeast Queensland, the company said on December 14.

“The rig contract was the final piece to fall into place so the fact that we have been able to lock in SLB 185 prior to the Christmas holidays is an exceptional achievement. Omega is now very well positioned to commence drilling in Q1 2023,” Omega managing director Lauren Bennett said.

In addition to securing a drilling rig, Omega has also finalised landholders agreements for both the nominated preferred well locations.

Omega has two exploration permits in the Surat basin in Queensland, ATP 2037 and ATP 2038. The two permits represent an area of over 250,000 acres and are located approximately 50 km away from gas transmission infrastructure, according to the company’s website.
