Oman's Tight Gas Reserves Exceed 100 TCF

Seismic data and the drilling of several appraisal wells have so far show that tight gas reserves in place in Block 61 held by BP, contain between 100-120 TCF, up from an earlier estimate of 30-40 TCF.

BP will begin supplying the appraisal gas to the nearby Saih Rawl gas plant in early 2011.

BP's EPSA area, 2,800 sq km, contains two tight gas fields, Khazzan and Makarem. Though discovered in 1993, they remained undeveloped due to the complexity of their tight reservoirs.

Production is expected to plateau at 1,000 MCF/day by 2015/16, but could reach 2,000 MCF/d by 2020

BP will not make a finalĀ investment decision on this before early 2013.
