Oman Oil Company Expects First Gas from Abu Tubul Tight Gas Field Later This Year

Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production LLC (OOCEP), the upstream subsidiary of state owned Oman Oil Company expects first gas from Abu Tubul tight gas field in Block 60 in central Oman to flow during the third quarter of this year, according to Oman Daily Observer newspaper.

Output from the Abu Tubul development is targeted at a peak production rate of 90 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d).

OOCEP acquired the field in December 2010 after the previous operator, UK-based BG International, relinquished the block.

Over the past year, the company has made significant strides in progressing the project through to the production phase, the newspaper says.

A total of 16 wells were drilled in 2103. The average initial production rate per well jumped 67 per cent in 2013 compared with 2012 levels, thanks to the new Field Development Plan, says OOCEP.
