Muscat Daily: Oil and gas most preferred industry to work in N Africa

The most preferred industry to work in, according to Middle East and North Africa (MENA) respondents to a Bayt.com and YouGov survey, is oil, gas and petrochemicals, a sentiment that is echoed by respondents in Oman.

The Bayt.com Career Aspirations in the Middle East and North Africa survey has revealed that around seven in ten respondents in MENA have set professional goals for themselves, with 26 per cent setting long-term ambitions to be achieved in the next five years.

The most common goals are to get a higher salary (54 per cent), to get a new job (53 per cent) and, to learn new skills (52 per cent). In the sultanate, 73 per cent of respondents have set professional goals they want to achieve, the top three of which echo those of the region.

In terms of personal goals for 2015, 70 per cent of Oman respondents want to save more money, 38 per cent want to travel and 36 per cent want to spend more time with family. Eight in ten (83 per cent) Oman respondents feel positive about 2015.
