NYK signs LNGC charter deal with Osaka Gas

Japanese shipping company NYK has signed a multi-year time charter contract with utility Osaka Gas for a new LNG carrier, it said on September 7.

This vessel, named Grace Freesia, comes equipped with a WinGD-made dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine that has “superior” fuel-consumption efficiency and can operate on marine gas oil or boil off gas stored in the cargo tank.

The carrier also features a re-liquefaction system that can use surplus boil-off gas efficiently, NYK said. The cargo tank is a 174,000 m3 capacity membrane-type tank. The carrier was built by South Korea's Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and was delivered earlier this year.

NYK earlier this month signed a charter deal with Kyushu Electric Power, another Japanese utility.
