NYK pens LNGC charter deal with Jera

Japanese shipping company NYK has finalised a long-term time charter contract with energy company Jera for a newly built LNG carrier (LNGC), it said on January 31.

The vessel, to be constructed by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in South Korea, is slated for completion in 2027, after which it will commence transporting LNG for Jera.

The newly built LNG carrier will feature a dual-fuel low-speed diesel engine, utilising both fuel oil and boil-off gas (LNG vaporised in cargo tanks during navigation) for its main engine. Additionally, the ship will be equipped with a reliquefaction device that harnesses surplus boil-off gas.

The cargo tank will adopt a membrane type with a capacity of 174,000 m3This agreement marks the 11th time that NYK has entered into a time charter contract with Jera for an LNG carrier, the company said.
