Novatek Eyes Cambodia's LNG Sector: Report

Russia’s Novatek is interested in investing in Cambodia’s LNG sector, especially in areas of supply, storage and conversion, according to local media reports published January 28.

Welcoming the development, Cambodia’s ministry of mines and energy secretary of state Dith Tina said Novatek should conduct a study of the nature of the local market and then proceed with the project, reported Post Khmer.

General department of petroleum director-general Cheap Sour said Novatek aims to study the country’s LNG market and will invest directly if it sees the market attractive.

Earlier this month, Indonesian state news agency Antara reported that Indonesia is looking to export LNG to Cambodia for power generation. At present, the country’s power plants run on diesel oil and coal.

Indonesia has also offered to build infrastructure for gas-based power plants, Antara reported.
