Norway's Aker To Help Boost Troll Output

Norwegian contractor Aker Solutions won a contract from Statoil to design and engineer a module that will increase output from the giant Troll gas field.

The order is for front end engineering and design (Feed) of a module that will increase output from the Statoil-operated North Sea field, but it also includes an option for engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the module.

The module in question, which will be installed on the Troll A platform, will receive and process gas from the Troll West field before it is exported to the onshore Kollsnes facility near Bergen in Norway.

"We're excited to start working on the next phase of this important development and look forward to collaborating with Statoil to optimize value from this field," said Aker Solutions Chief Executive Officer Luis Araujo.

Aker declined to disclose the contract's value, but said it will be booked as part of its 3Q2017 orders. It did however add that the new module is "an important part of Statoil's Troll phase 3 project."

Troll, 65km west of Kollsnes, contains around 40% of Norway's offshore gas reserves; gas production from the giant field complex began 1996 and is expected to continue beyond 2050. The field also has oil layers, initial production from which occurred in 1990 and 1995.

Troll to date has produced 551.34bn m3 gas in the period 1996-2016, of which 31.86bn m3 in 2016, in addition to oil, condensate and LPGs.
