Norway's Aerfugl gas field now at full capacity

Aker BP's Aerfugl field in the Norwegian Sea is now flowing gas at full capacity, project partner PGNiG reported on November 3, after the launch of two new wells.

The two wells add an extra 1.6bn m3/year to the field's production, bringing the total to 4.8bn m3/yr. They were drilled as part of the second stage of Aerfugl's development. Aker BP and its partners launched production from the first phase in late 2020.

The wells are linked to a floating production storage and offloading unit that also serves other fields in the Skarv area.

Aker BP operates Aerfugl with a 23.8% interest, while Equinor has 36.2%, Wintershall Dea has 28.1% and PGNiG has 11.9%. PGNiG estimates that a further 210mn barrels of oil equivalent can still be extracted from the reservoir.

The bump in production at Aerfugl comes amid an unprecedented crunch in European gas supply. The December gas delivery contract at the Dutch TTF hub is currently trading at €73.6 ($85.3)/MWh, up 8.9% from the previous session.
