Norway to Present Climate White Paper on February 6

European and Norwegian authorities confirmed on Wednesday their commitment for a reliable approach to climate change, through a mix of national policies and international cooperation.

Norway will take the initiative to enter into an agreement with the EU about a joint fulfilment of the targets, based on the EU’s framework for climate policies’ reads a note released by the Norwegian government, announcing it will present its White Paper on February 6.

Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg reiterated Oslo’s resolve to make its climate policies more ambitious, confirming that it will contribute to a 43% reduction in EU ETS by 2030 compared to 2005. The Scandinavian country added it will take its fair share of responsibilities also in the sectors not covered by the ETS.

Meanwhile, Energy Miguel Arias Cañete said in Washington that only through a strong cooperation between the US and EU a legally-binding climate deal would be possible. 

“We share many ideas on how to reach a global deal in Paris in December” he said speaking about the cooperation between Europe and the United States.
