1st LNG-fuelled cruise ship in Americas starts maiden voyage

The first LNG-fuelled cruise ship in the Americas has started off on its maiden voyage, its operator Carnival Cruise Line reported on July 31.

The 180,000-metric ton Mardi Gras left from port Canaveral on July 31 for a week-long cruise with stops in San Juan in Puerto Rico, Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, and Nassau in the Bahamas. The vessel was built by Finland's Meyer Turku, which cut the first piece of steel for a second LNG-powered cruise ship for Carnival, Carnival Celebration, in January. That ship should embark from port Miami in late 2022.
