Australian state of New South Wales has decided to end the ‘royalty holiday’ provided to the coal seam gas industry.

The NSW Deputy Premier and Nationals leader Andrew Stoner announced on Saturday that the coal seam gas industry will no longer enjoy a five-year exemption from paying royalties to the state once production starts media reports in Australia said.

The government may also ask CSG companies may to contribute to a community fund where production is taking place.

A new Land and Water Commissioner will also be appointed to oversee the creation of standardised land access agreements for coal seam gas exploration on private land, Fairfax newspapers reported on Saturday.
