New Permian Pipe in Service: Kinder Morgan

US infrastructure developer Kinder Morgan says its Gulf Coast Express (GCX) pipeline project is now in service from September 25, providing 2.0bn ft3/day of incremental gas transportation service from the Waha area of West Texas to the Agua Dulce hub near the Gulf Coast.

GCX will provide some relief from the take-away capacity constraints that have plagued Permian basin producers for some time and will enable them to reduce flaring of associated gas produced with shale oil.

“We are pleased to place GCX in service safely and ahead of schedule for our customers, helping to unlock tremendous value for the state of Texas,” Kinder Morgan Natural Gas Midstream president Sital Mody said. “With natural gas supplies projected to rise over the next 20 years from supply basins such as the Permian, our strong network of pipelines provides the ability to connect this supply to the growing markets along the Gulf Coast.”

Kinder Morgan is also developing the 2.1bn ft3/day Permian Highway Pipeline, which will also provide capacity from Waha to the Gulf Coast. Pending receipt of regulatory approvals, it will be in service in 4Q 2020.
