NEB Approves TransCanada’s Dawn Service

Canada’s regulator, National Energy Board, in a letter decision handed down September 22, has approved TransCanada Pipe Lines’ application for long term fixed price (LTFP) service from western Canada to the Dawn gas hub in Ontario.

The service, offered to shippers in an open season that closed last March 9, will apply to 27 new long-haul contracts for a total of 1.5bn ft3/day, with service to begin November 1. The proposed service was subject to an oral hearing in Calgary September 11-12.

The NEB will release the reasons for its decision, and any conditions that may be attached to it, at a later date.

The Dawn Hub, operated by Ontario gas distributor Union Gas, is the major clearing hub for natural gas traded in eastern Canada. It includes pipeline connections from western Canada and from the northeastern US including the Marcellus and Utica shale plays.
