Nakilat Takes Back 8th LNG Carrier

Qatar state owned shipowner Nakilat has assumed full ship management and operations of Q-Flex LNG carrier Al Ghashamiya from Shell Trading and Shipping Company (Stasco) with effect from May 24, 2017, it said May 25. The seventh carrier Onaiza came under Nakilat’s management last week.

In October 2016, the company said there will be a planned and phased management transition of all its 14 Q-Max and 11 Q-Flex LNG carriers from Stasco to Nakilat. Stasco had managed all Nakilat LNG carriers until that point since 2006.

Al Ghashamiya is wholly-owned by Nakilat and chartered by Qatargas. It was built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries and was delivered in April 2009. It brings the total number of Nakilat-managed vessels to 16, comprising of 12 LNG and 4 LPG carriers.
