More Natural Gas Discovered in Tanzania

More natural gas has been discovered in Tanzania.

According to Daily News Tanzania, a local daily, a discovery of about 2.17 trillion cubic feet (tcf) has been made along Ruvu Basin in Coast Region. The block where the gas had been found is operated by UAE based Dodsal Hydrocarbons and Power.

Dodsal Chief Executive Officer (CEO) P.K Surendran made the announcement during a meeting with the Minister for Energy and Minerals, Sospeter Muhongo.

Muhongo confirmed the discovery, which he said was made in July last year, but said that the government delayed to make the announcement due to new requirements of the Petroleum Act 2015, Daily News reported.

So far Dodsal has drilled three wells at Mbuyu, Mtini and Mambokofi in the exploration area in Coast Region. “Exploration is still ongoing and we are optimistic of striking more natural gas reserves in the Ruvu Block,” Surendran said. Dodsal Hydrocarbons and Power signed the Production Sharing Agreement with the Government of Tanzania on October 23, 2007.

According to Daily News, this discovery brings the sum of proven natural gas reserves to 57.27 tcf in both offshore and onshore wells
