Mongolia Wants China, Russia to Build Gas Pipeline Across its Territory
Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, President of Mongolia, made this statement on building a gas pipeline from Russia to China across Mongolia at a meeting of the BRICS heads of state in the Russian Urals city of Ufa, reported TASS.
This issue could come up for discussion at a trilateral meeting of the Russian, Chinese and Mongolian leaders in Beijing in September this year devoted to the celebration of the end of World War Two, Elbegdorj said.
Russia and China have signed a western route gas pipeline deal. The pipeline, also called Power of Siberia-2, is intended to run across the highly mountainous area of the Altai region in Siberia to China. However, a previous project proposed laying a gas pipeline to China across Mongolia, TASS said.
Nevertheless, this project came to a halt due to certain disagreements that existed between Mongolia and China at that time.
