MOL secures LNGC charter contract with Tokyo LNG Tanker

Japanese shipping major, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), has signed a long-term charter contract for an LNG carrier (LNGC) with Tokyo LNG Tanker Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, it said on March 5.

This agreement marks the eighth contract, following the previously successful time charter contract for seven LNG carriers exclusively chartered for Tokyo LNG.

The LNG carrier is set to be constructed at the Geoje Shipyard of Hanwha Ocean Co. in South Korea, with the anticipated delivery scheduled for the year 2026. MOL will take charge of managing the vessel, which is designated for the transportation of LNG on behalf of Tokyo LNG.

The new addition to the fleet will feature MAN Energy Solutions engine and have a length of 294.9 meters and a width of 46.4 meters.

MOL said the expansion of its LNG fleet reaffirms its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.
