MOL pens charter deal for LNGC with Jera

Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced on October 25 that it has signed a long-term charter contract for a 174,000 mnewbuilding LNG carrier with a vessel operation management company funded by Jera, Japan's largest power generation company.

This is the sixth contract, following a time charter contract for five LNG carriers that were signed for Jera. The vessel will be built at the Geoje Shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries and is scheduled for delivery in 2027.

The vessel will be managed by MOL and will transport LNG for Jera. It will be equipped with the MAN Energy Solutions engine (ME-GA), which improves fuel consumption efficiency, with specifications that enhance its environment friendliness, compared to conventional LNG carriers, MOL said.
